<p>Bengaluru: The health department has rationalised the salaries of medical officers, specialists and nurses working in ICUs and Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) under the National Health Mission in Karnataka. </p>.<p>Under the NHM, 936 staff nurse posts out of the total 9,041 are lying vacant, while 579 MBBS doctor posts are vacant, out of an approved 1,398 posts. Similarly, out of 899 approved posts for specialist doctors, such as obstetricians-gynaecologists, paediatricians, ophthalmologists, anaesthetists, general medicine specialists and orthopaedic surgeons, only 594 are currently working under the NHM. </p>.<p>There are also 41 vacancies for MBBS doctors under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM). </p>.<p>Following a proposal submitted by the government, approval has been granted under the NHM Supplementary RoP as follows: </p>.<p class="bodytext">The salaries of MBBS doctors would be hiked to Rs 75,000 per month from the current range of Rs 46,895 to Rs 60,000. Specialist doctors would get paid Rs 1,40,000 as against the range of Rs 1.1 lakh to Rs 1.3 lakh they are getting paid now. Staff nurses will get a monthly salary of Rs 22,000, a hike from the range of Rs 14,186 to Rs 18,714 they are currently being paid. </p>.<p class="bodytext">This hike in salary amounts will be applicable only to newly recruited personnel. Existing staff will continue to receive their current salaries. However, they can resign and reapply under the new recruitment process, according to the department. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Specialists will receive the initial salary of Rs 1,40,000 but experienced candidates will be provided an additional 2.5% increment per year.</p>
