Karnataka to set up fishing port in coastal regions

Currently, there are nine fishing ports on the state's 3600 km long coastline, Anand Asnotikar, Minister for Fisheries and Science and Technology, told reporters here.
The state has sought Centre's assistance in developing these fishing ports, he said.

Fishing markets were also proposed to be set up at 20 places in the state at cost of Rs 10 lakh each. There were also plans afoot to open fish canteens in each district, barring the coastal regions in the state. The canteen at the Cubbon Park here is being upgraded at a cost of Rs one crore.

On science and technology, he said the government plans to provide a thrust to nanotechnology by creating awareness about the same among children and distributing educational materials on the technology.
