Karnataka: Triveni Sangama fills up in Kodagu following heavy rains

Mangaluru: With rain showing no signs of abating, deputy commissioners in Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu have declared holiday for angawadi centres, schools, PU colleges on Tuesday.

Heavy rains coupled with gusty wind has been lashing Kodagu since Monday night. Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja has declared holiday for schools. However, PU exams will be held as per the time table, he said.

Triveni Sangama at Bhagamandala in Kodagu is full once again. Sangama is full for the second time during this monsoon. River water has entered Bhagamandala- Napoklu road. As flyover pass through in the area, the movement of vehicles has not been hampered.

Chikkamagaluru DC Meena Nagaraj has declared holiday for anganwadi centres in five taluks—Mudigere, Kalasa, Sringeri, Koppa and N R Pura taluks.

Meanwhile, the Sullia taluk disaster management committee in Dakshina Kannada has declared holiday for schools, and anganwadi centres in Sullia taluk. Sullia Tahsildar has urged parents to ensure that children do not go near the low-lying areas filled with water.

On the other hand, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) Hyderabad, has issued a high wave warning in the range of 4.1–4.4 metres forecast on the coast from Byndoor to Kaup in Udupi district until 8:30pm on Tuesday. Similarly, high waves in the range of 3.9–4.3 metres are forecast on the coast from Mulki to Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district until 8:30pm on Tuesday. It is advised that small vessels do not ply and nearshore recreation activities be totally suspended.
