<p>Mangaluru: <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/top-karnataka-news">Karnataka</a> Home Minister Dr <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/g-parameshwara">G Parameshwara</a> emphasised that the state government will not compromise in its fight against the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/drug-menace">drug menace</a> and is committed to taking strict action against drug peddlers.</p><p>Speaking at the inauguration of police quarters in Mangaluru, Bellare, and new buildings for Bantwal traffic, Subrahmanya, and Bellare police stations in Mangaluru on Saturday, he urged police officers to take decisive action against drug peddlers, assuring them of his full support. </p><p>He stated, “If the drug menace is not contained within their respective jurisdictions, inspectors, Dy SPs, and the Commissioner will be held accountable.”</p><p>Parameshwara reiterated Karnataka’s “war against drugs”, highlighting that sensitisation programmes have been conducted. </p><p>“In the past year, drugs worth Rs 250 crore have been seized and destroyed in Bengaluru. Strict action is being taken against peddlers. Some foreign nationals involved in peddling have been arrested and deported to their respective countries through embassies. Several peddlers have been booked under the Goonda Act, and a few have even been shot in Bengaluru,” he said.</p>.There are talks on changing Karnataka Congress president, says G Parameshwara.<p>When questioned about the firing on peddlers, he said, “If it is necessary, the police will take a call.”</p><p>On addressing the Naxal menace, the Home Minister remarked, "After Maoist leader Vikram Gowda was killed in an encounter, we have asked his accomplices to surrender. The government has already announced a surrender policy with an attractive package to help them lead a dignified life. Officials engaged in combing operations have also been promoting the surrender policy. It is better if they surrender."</p><p>Regarding an FIR filed against Vishwa Vokkaliga Mahasamastana mutt seer Kumara Chandrashekaranatha Swamiji, the minister stressed that "law is equal for all. None are above the law. The police are working within the legal framework".</p><p>Responding to allegations surrounding the Swabhimani Samavesha in Hassan, he dismissed claims of Opposition from Congress members. </p><p>“The BJP is making unnecessary allegations. As for the unanimous letter sent to Mallikarjun Kharge’s office against the convention, why can’t it be a letter written by the BJP? The convention is being organised by the Congress in association with others. In fact, I wanted to host the convention in Tumakuru. However, due to a mega government program in Tumakuru, it was shifted to Hassan,” the Minister clarified.</p><p>On the lobbying for the KPCC President’s post and cabinet reshuffle, he said, “These matters will be decided by the high command.”</p>
