'Law soon to regulate medical education'

The State government will soon enact a law to regulate medical education in Karnataka, Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil said on Friday.

“Karnataka is one of the few states to have good medical and healthcare facilities thanks to the vision and foresight of our leaders,” the minister said at the inauguration of KLE Society’s Centenary Charitable Hospital here.

In his remarks, former Union minister Sharad Pawar urged educational institutions to improve the quality of education and infrastructure so that their students could go on to win Nobel prizes. He said that many universities abroad could produce a list of their alumni who had won the Nobel prizes but institutions of higher learning couldn’t do so. Educational institutions like the KLE Society should impart quality education and develop infrastructure, he added.

KLE Society Chairman Prabhakar Kore announced that the group would establish a satellite hospital at Chikodi, besides expanding an existing hospital in Gokak.

Earlier, Pawar inaugurated KLE Society’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, the Venudhwani community radio and the KLE Centenary Convention Centre. He urged politicians to leave their political affiliations aside in order to solve farmers’ problems.
