Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday said that Mandya would be made BJP-free district after the elections.

“Many have joined hands, including the BJP, to defeat Nikhil. Whatever their tactics, it is not possible to stop Nikhil’s victory. The people of all taluks in Mandya district have voted for Kumaraswamy and I am confident they will not let down by son. Mandya district would be made BJP-free soon,” he said.

Filmi style

Speaking to reporters after visiting Nirmalanandanatha Swami at Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Kumaraswamy claimed that miscreants pelting stones on Darshan’s residence during the wee hours of Saturday has been projected in a filmi style. The incident has been misused in view of the elections, he said.

The chief minister questioned whether it was possible for anyone to pelt stones on the house of actor Darshan during the wee hours and flee. Upon checking the security measures, the CCTV cameras installed at the house were found not functioning at the specific time. They should reply why the cameras were switched off, he said.

The chief minister explained that it was his duty to protect the people of the state and as soon as he came to know about the stone-pelting incident, he had directed the officials to provide suitable protection to Darshan’s residence.

Reacting to Congress leader N Chaluvarayaswamy’s support to Sumalatha, he said, “It is his choice not to support Nikhil. We are not going to be affected by the backstabbing. JD(S) workers will work for the victory of Congress candidates in all the 20 constituencies in the state. Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy will not get disturbed by cunning and dishonest politics. I have the power of my party workers. I have already directed the party workers and leaders to refrain from personal attack on the opponents,” he said.
