Mangaluru: 2 youths taken into custody for possessing unlicensed pistol and 6 live bullets

Mangaluru: The Kankanady Town police took two youths to custody for possessing an unlicensed pistol and six live bullets near Kedekar Cross in Mangaluru Commissionerate limits. 

According to the police, the arrested are identified as Tausif Ahmad and Abdul Khader.

In a complaint, PSI Shiv Kumar K of Kankanady Town said that while he was patrolling with his staff at around 3:30 pm on Monday, from Jeppinamogaru Junction towards Kallapu, they noticed Tausif Ahmad and Abdul Khader standing near Kedekar Cross.

On noticing the police vehicle, the duo started running towards the Netravathi riverbank. With the help of the police staff, they were taken into custody. During questioning, the police found that Tausif Ahmad was in illegal possession of a pistol and six live bullets.

Further interrogation revealed that the pistol and ammunition were initially brought by Ajiz, a deceased resident of Kuthar.

Abdul Khader had accompanied Ajiz to Agra. Ajiz had obtained the pistol and bullets from an unknown person. He showed them to Abdul Khader.

In March 2025, Ajiz and Abdul Khader were returning by train back to Mangaluru with the pistol and bullets in their possession. During the journey, Ajiz suffered a heart attack near Kumta in Uttara Kannada district and died.

Later, Hameed, a relative of Ajiz, collected the pistol from Abdul Khader and kept it in his possession. After a few days, Hameed handed over the pistol to Tausif, who was from Bolar.

On July 31, Tausif Ahmad was instructed to hand over the pistol and bullets to Hameed at Kedekar Cross. When they were waiting for Hameed, the cops, during their patrol, spot him and took the duo into custody.
