Minority, majority hold meet to end unrest

Prominent members from all three major religions participated in the meeting and issues pertaining to cow slaughter, terrorism, ‘Love Jihad,’ conversion and unemployment formed the agenda of the meeting as these have been the major cause for the majority of unrest in the district in the recent past.
Quraishi addressing the reporters on Friday, informed that the meeting was meant to understand the feelings of the people from different communities. Likewise in the first of its kind, the attempt had positive response from people who came face to face to speak about the problems and even suggest solutions.

“This is the begining and this will go on. Next week, similar meetings will be held at Karwar and Bhatkal,” he said.

SSF State President Abdurrasheed Zaini spoke on terrorism and cow slaughter, Jamate Islami Hind District Youth Wing convener Mohommad Kunhi spoke on ‘love jihad’, Salafi Students Movement leader Saluddin Abdul Khader spoke on conversion and Smyukta Kerala Jamyaithul Secretary Azeez Darimi spoke on unemployment.

On the other hand, Hindu Jagaran Vedike State co-convener Sathyajit Surathkal spoke on cow slaughter followed by Vishwa Hindu Parishat Zonal Vice-President Ravish Thantri on Conversion, VHP District Vice-President Jagadish Shenava on ‘Love Jihad,’ RSS Leader Prof M B Puranik on terrorism and former Mayor K Diwakar on unemployment.

Mangalore University Chair in Christianity Head Fr John Fernandes, Mulsim Central Committee President K S Mohommad Masood, Minority Cell President Mohiuddin Bawa, District Wakf Committee Chairman Mohommad Kunhi, Bajrang Dal Leaders Vinay L Shetty, Sharan Pumpwell among others were present at the meeting.

BJP Minority Cell Convenor Rahim Uchil was present.
