Dr Prakash Amte and Dr Mandakini Amte, environmentalist couple, will be presented with the Moolathva Vishwa Award 2019 for community leadership.

Dr Prakash Amte is the son of late Gandhian social activist Baba Amte. The couple was awarded the Magsaysay Award for ‘Community Leadership’ in 2008 for philanthropic work through the Lok Biradari Prakalp in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra as well as Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.

This year’s award, which is the fifth, will be presented at Moolathva Vishwa Degula, Bengathodi, Kavalkatte, Bantwal, during a programme at 5.30 pm on February 16.

Prakash Moolathva, founder of the Moolathva Foundation Charitable Trust, who addressed a press meet in the city on Tuesday, said that Nitte Education Trust chairperson N Vinaya Hegde will be chief guest for the award presentation ceremony. Kavalapadoor Gram Panchayat president Pramod Kumar Rai, Rani Abbakka Tulu Adhyayana Kendra president Prof Tukaram Poojary, B V Karanth Rangaprathishthana managing trustee M Jayaram Patil and ex-serviceman Annappa H and others will be present, he added.

Moolathva Foundation Charitable Trust trustee Kalpana Kotian, convener Purushotham Chithrapur and Vishwa Prakruthi leader Bhavya Rani were present at the press meet.
