Moral policing: three arrested for assaulting students in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, dhns: The Kavoor police have arrested three people in connection with the assault on PU students near Kinnigoli on Tuesday.

The students had been to the Manasa Amusement and Water Park in Pilikula on Mangaluru outskirts on Tuesday, where they were assaulted by men claiming to be Hindu activists. According to DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya, police arrested Sampath Shetty, Varada and Dinesh following a complaint by one of the victims. According to the police, the activists assaulted the students after they learnt that two girls from different communities were with boys from another community in Pilikula. Police rushed to the spot and rescued them. A video of a youth questioning the girl and later beating her from behind in the presence of police personnel who were accompanying them while coming out from the park has gone viral.

Samapth Shetty has been giving contradictory statements about him belonging to Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike, said city police commissioner T R Suresh. Sources said Shetty is a histroy-sheeter in Kavoor police station.
