<p>Mysuru: The Dasara elephants and their caretakers are insured during their stay in Mysuru till the end of Dasara. This insurance covers even accidental harm to public property or the general public by the elephants. </p><p>The Dasara elephants and their caretakers are insured for Rs 2.04 Crore by paying a premium of Rs 57,332 during their stay in Mysuru from August 4 to October 5.</p> .After Gajapayana, Dasara elephants bathe and enjoy good food at Mysuru's Aranya Bhavan.<p>They have insured each male elephant for a sum of Rs 5 lakh and each female elephant for a sum of Rs 4.5 lakh. </p><p>All 14 elephants including 10 male and four female elephants have been insured for a total sum of Rs 68 lakh. </p><p>Among the elephants which have arrived in first batch on Monday, the insured male elephants are Abhimanyu, Bheema, Mahendra, Ekalavya, Prashantha, Dhananjaya, Kanjan and female elephants are Lakshmi and Kaveri; and also among the elephants which will arrive in second batch, the male Elephants are Gopi, Sugreeva, Srikanta and female elephants are Roopa and Hemavathi. </p> .<p>As many as 43 people including 14 mahouts, 14 kavaadis of these elephants, 15 forest department personnel and officials are also insured for a total sum of Rs 86 lakh, that is Rs 2 lakh per person. </p><p>Also in the interest of public and public property, in case there is any accidental harm to the general public and if there is any damage to public property, by Dasara elephants during their stay or training or Dasara Jamboo Savari procession, they are insured for a sum of Rs 50 lakh.</p> .<p>The insurance premium amount is paid by the Forest department. This is included in the amount allotted by Dasara Executive Committee to the forest department for the maintenance of elephants and caretakers during their stay in Mysuru. The insurance is done in the name of DCF I B Prabhu Gowda who is in-charge of Dasara Elephants, according to sources. </p><p>"There have not been any untoward incidents during the training or stay of Dasara elephants in Mysuru so far. This insurance is done only as a precautionary measure," officials said. </p>
