Mysuru KPL team creates awareness on cleft-lip

Arjun Ranga, Industrialist and co-owner of ‘Mysuru Warriors’ cricket team of KPL said, besides donating funds to help treat children with cleft lip and palate, his team wants to create awareness on the condition and treatment of it.

He was speaking, here, on Tuesday, after presenting a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe, an NGO that offers comprehensive treatment to children with cleft lip and palate in Mysuru, in association with St Joseph’s Hospital.

He said, for every 4s and 6s and the wickets, the team contributed Rs 400 to Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe and it came to around Rs 65,000 and Cycle Pure Agarbathies rounded it off to Rs 1 lakh and is donating the amount to help treat at least seven children with the problem.

“Last year, the performance of Mysuru Warriors was better, garnering Rs 85,000, which was also rounded off to Rs 1 lakh to be presented to Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe,” he added.

Free of cost
Stating that the treatment for children with cleft lip and palate is free of cost at St Joseph’s Hospital in Bannimantap in the city, as it is supported by Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe, project surgeon Dr Manu Prasad said, the treatment can be initiated as early as the child is three months old.

“The surgeries have to be conducted in seven to eight stages and would stretch up the time when the child is around 13 years of age. Besides the surgeries, children with the problem need speech therapy and also orthodontics,” he said.

Regional head of Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe Dushyanth was present.
