India needs a growth pattern based on intellectual ideas and knowledge economy, towards forming an innovation-based society, opined Manipal Global Education Chairman TV Mohandas Pai.

He was delivering the key-note address at the Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship award ceremony, organised by Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, at T V Raman Pai Convention Centre in Mangaluru on Friday.

University education in the advanced countries prepares students to develop innovative ideas. It is noteworthy that the knowledge and innovation based companies are in the forefront, he said.

“Konkani community has served various sectors. However, there is a necessity of a strong political power to represent the linguistic minority like Konkani community,” he added.

He also lamented that the linguistic minorities are not being provided its rightful share, compared to the religious minorities. Therefore, along with knowledge and economic powers, the Konkani community needs political power, to claim the constitutional rights.

All Konkani-speaking people should come together to be a part of the global community. Especially, the youth of the community should inculcate problem-solving attitude and skills, TV Mohandas Pai said and called upon the people of Konkani community not to forget their language, wherever they go.

Goa Economic Development Corporation Chairman Siddharth Kunkolienkar felt that integrity should always complement intelligence.

“We are in a technology-driven world and there are ample opportunities for youth, provided they are competitive.”

Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath stressed the need for the students to fulfil their social obligations.

Scholarships worth Rs 3.5 crore were distributed to the deserving students from Konkani speaking community, on the occasion.
