The registration of case against former minister B Ramanath Rai in connection with the seizure of money during the 2018 Assembly elections will not pose a hurdle for him to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election, said Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.

Replying to a query, he said, “The Income Tax officials had submitted a report on the seizure of cash during the election. Based on the report, an FIR was registered. It will not pose a hindrance for him to contest the election at this stage.”

Senthil said if Rai contests the election, then he would have to furnish details of the case along with the affidavit during the filing of nomination.

The case is still in the investigation stages, he added.
