The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed the Union government to furnish clarification on its notifications regarding educational rights of the Overseas Citizens of India (OCI).

Assistant Solicitor General of India C Shashikant submitted that he has written to the Centre seeking clarifications on various aspects.

The court stated in its order that interpretation of the clauses in the said notifications was required at the earliest. Furthermore, the court directed that the said clarifications are to be furnished by the Ministry of External Affairs in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, so that the possible conflict of versions can be avoided.

Justice Krishna S Dixit who heard the case said that since the tests are fast approaching, clarification has to be submitted within two weeks and failing this, the secretary of these departments may have to personally appear before the court.
