JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Saturday said that the results of bypolls to the three Lok Sabha constituencies and two Assembly segments were not a precursor to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters here, Gowda said the Congress and the JD(S) would continue their alliance in the byelections.

“The JD(S) will contest the Ramanagar seat, while the Congress will field a candidate in Jamkhandi,” he said. Gowda said his party was yet to finalise the candidate for Ramanagar. He said the JD(S) had not arrived at any decision on the candidature of his daughter-in-law Anitha Kumaraswamy from the constituency. The former prime minister said his son, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Congress legislature party leader Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara would take a call on the sharing of seats for the Lok Sabha bypolls. Gowda said he had not taken a call on touring the constituencies for election campaign. “Leaders in the government will take such decisions,” he added.
