Parts of Ballari, U-K dists receive moderate rain

Rain receded in most parts of the state, including coastal districts and Malnad regions on Friday. However, the sky remained generally cloudy in parts of the state.

Parts of Uttara Kannada and Ballari districts received medium to heavy rain for a brief spell though on Friday. Heavy showers on Friday evening threw life out of gear at Tambralli in Hagaribommanahalli taluk of Ballari district. Several houses at Vidyanagar ward in the village were inundated. Sewage water gushed into the houses and huts causing grave hardships to the residents.

The programme to inaugurate several development works at Tambralli by MP Sriramulu was cancelled after the shamiyana erected for the programme was swept away by the rain accompanied by strong winds.

Karwar and parts of Uttara Kannada district, including Siddapur, Bhatkal, Honnavar and Mundgod received light showers on Friday.

According to Met department, the district has received 124.4 mm rain in the last 24 hours (ending at 8.30 am on Friday). Bhatkal taluk alone has recorded 55 mm rain.

Kalaburagi and Dharwad received rain for about 45 minutes.
