Pvt schools may go to court on fees

A section of private schools in the City, under the aegis of Associated Managements of English Medium Schools in Karnataka (KAMS), has threatened to approach the court and also stage a protest against the revised registration fees for schools.

The Department of Public Instruction recently issued a circular on the revised fees to be paid by school towards registration and processing fees for running various classes in English and Kannada mediums.

The members of the association alleged that the block education officers were asking even the existing schools to pay the revised fees. They are rejecting the applications for renewal of affiliation and are asking managements to apply afresh by paying the revised fees, the members said. They members maintained that middle-income schools could not afford hefty registration fees.

Secretary General of KAMS, D Shashi Kumar, said the registration fees, running into lakhs, was exorbitant. The school managements have also urged the government to take a decision on the language policy.
