‘Quicken construction of houses for flood victims’

Kodagu District In-charge Secretary Anbu Kumar directed the officials to complete the work on houses for the natural calamity victims.

“The monsoon will set in, in another two months. The work on houses, roads, bridges, retaining walls should be accelerated,” said the secretary.

The officer was speaking at a review meeting in town on Thursday.

Power supply

He said that the work on the construction of houses for natural calamity victims at Madapura, Made and Karnangeri is in progress. He also directed the Cesc engineer to supply power uninterrupted when the construction work is on.

Anbu Kumar said that for the first time in the country, a house rent of Rs 10,000 is being paid for the victims.

“The district website should upload details on the ongoing works and also on the compensation paid to the victims. The funds released under natural calamity relief fund should be utilised on time. The officials should ensure that funds are not wasted. The welfare programmes from the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Backward Classes and Minority should be implemented effectively,” he added.

Residential schools

Lokayukta has suggested to enrol children of natural calamity victims to residential schools. He sought information from the deputy commissioner on the number of children who have been admitted to the residential schools.

Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy said that there were allegations of compensation amount not being credited to the accounts of the natural calamity victims.

“The banks will be asked to submit details on the same,” the officer assured.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinivas said that a sum of Rs 10.6 crore has been distributed for the damage to 3,916 houses. “A sum of Rs 5.1 crore has been released under the CM Relief Fund for those who have lost their household articles. Also, Rs 48 lakh has been released as house rent for those who have lost their houses,” said the officer.

Support price

Sadashivaiah, deputy director of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, said that 632 farmers registered for the purchase of paddy under minimum support price scheme. Already, 600 quintal paddy has been purchased.

Anbu Kumar sought to know why the houses built for Diddalli tribals have not been handed over to the beneficiaries. The houses that are completed should be handed over to the beneficiaries immediately.
