<p>A teenager was killed while another suffered severe head injuries when a motorcycle they were travelling on, rammed into a median near Jaladarshini Guest House on Mysore-Hunsur road in the city on Saturday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The deceased has been identified as bike rider Manju (17) son of Madappa, Erappana Koppal of Yelwal hobli on the outskirts. The injured is his cousin and pillion rider Vinay Kumar (18) son of Ramesh, Yelchalli, of the same hobli. <br /><br />V V Puram traffic police said, Manju was a second PU student at Mahajana College, Jayalakshmipuram in the city. The duo was travelling towards Metropole circle in a break neck speed around 8.30 am, when Manju lost control over the bike after reaching the curve beginning from Jaladarshini Guest House compound. He rammed the bike into the median and was thrown off the bike. He landing under the wheel of a moving lorry on the other side of the road. Though Manju was wearing a helmet, he couldn’t evade death as he was crushed under the wheel of the heavy vehicle, police added. Vinay who was also thrown off the bike fell flat on the road, sustaining severe injuries in his head. The lorry driver fled from the scene after abandoning the vehicle in the middle of the road.<br /><br />Quoting family members, police said that very recently Manju had bought the bike. Madappa had acceded to his son’s demand for a two-wheeler, after spending a part of the money he had secured after selling an immovable property.<br /><br />Heart rending scenes were witnessed at the mortuary attached to Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC and RI) where Manju’s parents were inconsolable. <br /><br />Ivory: Two held<br /><br />Kuvempunagar police on Friday arrested two on the charges of possessing ivory estimated worth Rs 1.5 lakh.<br /><br />The accused have been identified as Ajaykumar J K and Ranjith. Ajaykumar, a resident of T K Layout had received the pair of tusks estimated worth Rs 1.5 lakh from Mahadeva Nayaka at Konganur near B R Hills. He was trying to dispose off the same through Ranjith of Kushalnagar. Police disguised as customers asked them to come to a spot only to arrest them later. <br /><br />They were produced before a judge and have been remanded in judicial custody.<br /></p>
