Ready to accept Karnataka Congress president post: Minister Rajanna

Udupi: Cooperative Minister KN Rajanna has clarified his stance on the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president position, stating that while he is prepared to take on the role if offered, he has not actively sought it.

Speaking to reporters, Rajanna said, "I have not asked for the KPCC president position. However, if the party offers it to me, I am prepared to accept it. I have also expressed my readiness to step down from my ministerial responsibilities if necessary."

Dismissing suggestions of lobbying for the position, he added, "There is no question of submitting an application or seeking the role." Responding to KPCC President DK Shivakumar’s remark that "the party and High Command will take decisions," Rajanna said, "He has expressed his opinion, and there is nothing wrong with it. The priority is maintaining the support of 113 MLAs to run the government effectively. Why should I comment further on his statement?"

Rajanna emphasised the need to strengthen the Congress by taking grassroots communities into confidence. "The goal is to instill trust among all communities, not to oppose or create division. While I aspire to the KPCC president role, I have not insisted on it," he clarified.

Highlighting the significance of local elections, Rajanna said, "The party must empower workers during gram, zilla, and taluk panchayat elections, as they are the backbone of our organisation. This approach will prepare us for upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Motivated workers will ensure the party's success."

On the issue of factionalism, Rajanna remarked, "Factional politics exists in all parties, including BJP, Congress, and JD(S). It is a natural part of democratic politics and has been present in Congress since its inception in 1880. In fact, factional politics can contribute positively to a party’s democratic structure."

When asked about the power-sharing agreement in the government, Rajanna stated, "I am unaware of the details. Such matters are decided by the High Command."

Reiterating his loyalty to the Congress, he said, "I am a minister in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's cabinet, and it is my responsibility to support my leader and the party. Ultimately, I stand by whatever decision the High Command takes."
