<p>Chikkamagaluru: The recounting of votes cast towards the election of members of <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/legislative-council">Legislative Council</a> from local bodies, will be held on February 28, as per the court orders.</p><p>The election was held on December 10, 2021 and counting was held on December 14.</p><p>Among the total 2,410 votes, 39 were void. Out of 2,371 votes, 1,188 were cast in favour of M K Pranesh of BJP while Gayathri Shantegowda from Congress party secured 1,182 votes as per the counting. The Returning Officer had declared Pranesh to be the winner by six votes.</p><p>However, Gayathri Shantegowda claimed that 12 nominated members from Sringeri, Koppa, Narasimharajapura and Mudigere town panchayats too, had exercised their franchise. The votes should have been kept aside while counting as the nominated members do not have the voting rights, she claimed and approached the court.</p>.Supreme Court bars announcing Bihar legislative council bypoll result.<p>The Supreme Court has ordered the authorities to submit a report with the results in a sealed envelope after carrying out a recount, excluding the votes of 12 nominated members.</p><p>Accordingly, the district administration has done preparations for recounting. IAS officer Ujjwal Kumar has been appointed as the Observer by the Election Commission. He said that the results will not be declared by the administration but instead will be submitted to the top court.</p><p>The rare incident has created curiosity among people. The members of both the parties BJP and Congress are engaged in calculations.</p><p><strong>Counting venue</strong></p><p>Deputy Commissioner Meena Nagaraj said that the recounting will be held at IDSG College and prohibitory orders have been imposed in the 200-meter periphery of the centre from 6 am to 12 noon. The recounting will start at 8 am and will be carried out in three tables. Two Assistant Commissioners will be the supervisors with two Tahsildars assisting them.</p><p>“All candidates have been intimated. Each will be allowed to appoint an election agent and one counting agent. The agents have been provided with identity cards”, the DC said.</p><p>She added that the recounting process will be recorded using three video cameras.</p><p>The results will be submitted to both the High Court and the Supreme Court in sealed envelopes, she added.</p>
