<p class="title">Heavy rains in the catchment areas of river Krishna and its tributaries in neighbouring Maharashtra have led to a constant increase in water levels in Chikkodi, Raibag and Athani taluks where the river flows.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The water level is nearing the danger mark, but inflow continues to swell the rivers and flood bridges. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Six low-lying bridges across river Krishna and its tributaries Vedganga and Doodhganga are totally inundated. Alternative routes to surrounding villages have been opened for movement of people and vehicles. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Inflow into river Krishna that was 70,052 cusecs on Thursday. It increased to 85,143 cusecs on Friday-- which is close to the danger mark. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Water level at the confluence of rivers Krishna and Panchaganga has risen and water has flooded the Datta Temple located at Narasimhawadi in Kolhapur district on Friday. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The palanquin ritual for the deity was carried out in waist-high water. Devotees from Karnataka visit the temple in large numbers round the year. </p>
