Rs nine lakh cash stolen from garment shop

Incident reported in Kuvempunagar police limits

The city police who were heaving a sigh of relief as there were no major crimes reported in the Crime Prevention Month observed every year during the month of December, on Sunday woke up to a burglary case reported in Kuvempunagar police limits.

A whopping Rs nine lakh cash kept in the drawer of Rangoli Showroom, a garment shop opposite Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) complex, near Hedgevar Circle, Kuvempunagar was found stolen in the morning. The incident came to light after the shop was opened in the day. 

The police who visited the shop were befuddled to know that there was no forced entry into the shop as the shutters were found intact. The shop spread across two floors has a provision for exhaust fan on the first floor, and a ventilator on the ground floor, from where an outsider can gain entry. However, it is unlikely that the burglars have entered from these two openings. While a security guard is deployed on the job. A sniffer dog was pressed into service, that lost the scent after moving away from the circle.  

Two arrested

Two, including a known offender have been arrested by the City Crime Branch (CCB) police on the charges of chain snatching. 

The police have recovered gold chain worth Rs 85,000 from the accused. The accused identified as Suresh, aged 35 years and resident of Channagiri Koppal and Mahadeva Swamy alias Kencha, 23 years, Gorur, Srirampura here had lifted the gold chain in Vidyaranyapuram police limits. During interrogation it came to light that the prime accused Suresh was earlier accused of vehicle theft in Mandi police limits. The police have also recovered a two-wheeler from them.

The police team was led by ACP (CCB) K N Madaiah, said a release.
