Rural POs to be computerised by September

The process of computerising rural post offices would be complete by the month of September this year, said Charles Lobo, Karnataka Chief Post Master General in Chikkamagaluru.

Addressing reporters here on Friday, he said that the process has been completed in 12 districts of Karnataka. “Related equipment are being supplied to the rest of the districts and the installation is on,” he said.

He further informed that the Postal Department staff will be provided with DARPAN (Digital Advancement of Rural Post Offices for A New India) device, through which the collection of deposits and acknowledgement slip generation could be performed. The account holders may avail the acknowledgement slip from the postal staff, at their doorstep.

Salary

“A monthly remuneration of Rs 12,000 to Rs 18,000 is fixed for rural postal staff (Grameen Dak Sevaks). The working duration would be four hours to five hours a day. Order has been issued to the concerned to fulfil the remuneration process before July 15,” he explained.

Lobo added, “Up to 12 lakh Sukanya Samruddhi accounts have been opened in the state. The target for the current fiscal year is 10 lakh accounts.”

New post offices in Hassan, Udupi

Taking part in the inauguration of the zonal post office building on the APMC premises in Jyothinagar, Lobo said that the work on post office buildings at Baikere village in Hassan district and Kota in Udupi district, are on.

“The work is expected to be complete by January. Also, building work for the new post offices has been taken up in T Narasipura in Mysuru and Jalanagara in Vijayapura. Permission has been obtained for another new building at Subrahmanyapura in Bengaluru. The construction of the head post office building in Karwar will commence soon. The government has also given its nod for the construction of women’s hostel in postal training centre in Mysuru,” he added.
