School records 100% eighth time in a row

Last Updated 30 April 2019, 18:39 IST

Nammura Shaale in Guruvayanakere in Belthangady taluk has become the only government school in Karnataka to achieve 100% pass results in SSLC exams for the eighth time in a row.

Jagannath, headmaster, said that of the 78 students who wrote the examination, 51 had scored above 80%. “A student also topped the taluk with 612 marks,” he said with pride.

In 2017, then education minister, Principal Secretary to Education Department (primary and secondary education) Shalini Rajneesh and local Belthangady MLA Vasanth Bangera had felicitated the teachers for having helped the school beat Chikkodi school’s record of five successive 100% passes.

Teachers in the school, following a model, take special classes even during festivals, to complete the syllabus by October. Students who are academically poor get more attention from the teachers. After completing chapter-wise revisions, four preparatory examinations are conducted, before the start of SSLC examinations.

“The students are also counselled prior to the start of examinations. Our morning missed-call strategy – where teachers give missed calls to students 5 am onwards until they are wide awake – also has inspired other schools,” adds Jagannath.

Out of the total 84 schools which had recorded 100% results, 17 are government, 5 are aided and 62 are unaided schools.

Three students have scored 624 marks, five students have scored 622, four students have scored 621 and seven students have scored 620 marks.

In Udupi district, 36 government, aided and unaided schools recorded 100% results.

Government schools reported 85.01% (4972/5849), Aided school, 85.76% (2813/3280) and unaided schools reported 94.79% (3672/3874).

Byndoor block reported 83.15%, Kundapur, 85.44%, Karkala 84.06%, Udupi North, 85.83% and Udupi South 79.74%.
