Udupi district Taximen's and Maxi Cab Association will organise a protest and lay siege to the RTO office on November 7 as part of the state-wide protest to condemn compulsory introduction of speed governors for taxis and maxi cabs.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Udupi district Taximen's and Maxi Cab Association president Raghupathy Bhat said that there are more than 14 companies which are manufacturing speed governors. The government is sadly dependent on two companies for providing speed governors. The move by the government raises suspicions, he said and added that the actual price of the speed governor is Rs 3,000, but the government is charging Rs 16,000 for the same. He demanded that the government should also make it compulsory for private vehicles to introduce speed governors and not make it mandatory only for tourist taxis and maxi cabs.
A protest rally will be organised from Tiger Circle to the DC's office in Manipal and a memorandum would be submitted to the deputy commissioner on the occasion.
