The state government on Thursday temporarily withdrew a government order which stipulates a basic minimum educational qualification of SSLC for recruiting anganwadi cooks.
Home Minister G Parameshwara made this announcement in the Legislative Council, after the Opposition members demanded withdrawal of the order by trooping into the well of the House.
MLCs Motamma (Congress) and K B Shanappa (BJP) had come down heavily upon the government for mandating basic minimum qualification for cooks. The members contended that this would deprive several rural and poor women from earning a decent living.
The government however yielded after the members staged a protest.
