The ST hostel which is coming up on Belur road at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore will be completed by June, said MLA C T Ravi.

Speaking after inspecting the ongoing work, he said that it was the previous BJP government that had sanctioned funds for the hostel. The work on two -floor building  is in progress and can cater to the needs of 600 children.

The hostel will be provided all the basic facilities. It will have 66 rooms, dining hall, rain water harvesting system, solar units, hot water facilities and so on.

Though the previous government had sanctioned Rs five crore for the construction of Babu Jagajeevan Ram Bhavan at Nallur and Rs two crore for the Valmiki Bhavan, the district administration had not taken up the work.

'No pressure'

The MLA has said that neither the BJP nor himself had tried to protect accused who were responsible for desecrating a place of worship, resulting in communal flare up in Chikmagalur.

“Truth can not be hidden. The truth will come out after the investigation. I have not pressurised the police department to protect the accused. The police are investigating the incident from all angles. There was a need to carry out narco analysis test on the accused to bring out the truth. There are few miscreants who can not digest peace in the district. A few are conspiring against me after my victory in the Assembly election,” he said.

The damage to the welcome arch of a temple in Mudigere is also a crime. The police should conduct an impartial probe into both the incidents.

To a query, he said that a few political leaders are levelling allegations without a base. All those who disrupt peace and harmony in the district should be arrested.

Gaus Mohiddin of Komu Sauharda Vedike is hand in glove with a banned orgaisation. There is a need to probe into his association with such organisations.
