Creches set up under Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Scheme for children of working and ailing mothers will get a facelift through increased fund allocation from Central Social Welfare Board.

Speaking during National Girl Child Day celebration 2014, organised by Karnataka State Social Welfare Board, at Gandhi Bhavan in City, Central Social Welfare Board Chairperson Prema Cariappa said funds will be increased from

Rs 42,000 per unit (creche) to Rs 1.52 lakh per unit. The revised rates will be effective from April this year. Creches will function on par with anganwadis.

Salary provided to counsellors employed by the board has been increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 13,500 in urban areas and from Rs 5,500 to Rs 12,000 in rural areas. Presently, there are around 600 creches run by NGOs in Karnataka.
