Members of the Akhila Bharata Vidyarthi Parishat staged a protest in Chikkaballapur on Monday demanding that the authorities put a stop to the commercialisation of education.

They also demanded that there be a uniform set of rules for all vocational courses, in order to help poor students.

They demanded that 60 per cent of all seats be reserved as government seats, while only 40 per cent be kept side as management seats. The same fee should be charged, they urged.

“Set up two committees to look into entrance and fees. When the fee structure is being fixed, the committees should look into the quality of the college as well. An education development bank should be set up to help poor and meritorious students avail of loans,” they said.

They also demanded that the COMED-K and other entrance exams be cancelled, and there be a single-window examination for entrance to all vocational courses.

The protest began near the Government Pre-University college, soon after the afternoon session of the CET ended. The protesters took out a rally outside the college, to the office of the Deputy Commissioner. They raised slogans against the government and later submitted a memorandum to the Manager at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
