Subrahmanya, Sode Mutts revive ties severed

Last Updated 29 May 2017, 19:42 IST
It was a historic occasion at this temple town on Monday, when two mutts of the Madhwa tradition revived relations between them, severed two centuries and a half ago.

Pejawar seer Vishweshateertha Swami had every reason to be happy, having played the go-between for the reunion of the Sode Vadiraja Mutt and Subrahmanya Mutt.

“Seers who guide the society should always show the right path to devotees. The reunion of two Vaishnava mutts will go down as an important milestone in the spiritual legacy of Udupi Krishna Mutt and Subrahmanya Mutt,” he said.

Sode seer Vishwavallabhateertha Swami said it all happened according to his predecessor Vishwotthamateertha Swami’s wish. Subrahmanya Mutt seer Vidyaprasannateertha Swami said seers, who preach spiritualism to the society, are not supposed to continue hatred and should become role models to the people.

Both the pontiffs visited Anantheshwara, Chandramouleshwara and Krishna temples and offered prayers jointly. The Sode seer will visit Subrahmanya Mutt shortly.
The dispute goes back more than 250 years ago when the Subrahmanya Mutt seer had invited the Sode Mutt seer for a puja. However, the puja was over by the time the latter reached the Mutt. The Sode Mutt seer then decided to cut off all relations with Subrahmanya Mutt.
