Supply sufficient water to drought-hit villages: Gowda

Last Updated 02 March 2014, 17:07 IST

Former prime minister and Hassan MP H D Deve Gowda directed officials to supply adequate water to drought-hit villages in the district, during a tri-monthly meeting of Karnataka Development Programme, in Hassan, on Sunday.

Gowda said, “If you find any shortage of funds for supplying potable water, demand funds from the State government or else take it from MLA or MP funds. In the month of March itself, drought-hit taluks like Arsikere and Channarayapatna are facing drinking water problems. Plan a detailed project before the election code of conduct comes into force”.

MLAs K M Shivalingegowda, C N Balakrishna and H K Kumaraswamy complained that people in their constituencies are facing drinking water problems and urged the Deputy Commissioner to make necessary arrangements.

They said, Rs 2 crore allocated for digging borewells in each taluks is insufficient, so the amount should be increased. Six taluks in district except Alur and Sakleshpur have been declared as drought-hit
