Suspected Maoist leader produced in court

Suspected Maoist leader Roopesh who was arrested on the charges of Maoist activities in border areas was produced before the District Principal and Sessions Court on Wednesday.

Roopesh who is lodged at a prison in Kerala was brought to Kodagu under tight security. The court has posted the hearing to April 27. When Roopesh was brought to the court, he raised pro-Naxal slogans.

Roopesh has been alleged of leading a group of Maoists in Kaluru and Parakatageri in 2010 and Cherambane in 2013.

The group was accused of distributing handbills containing pro-Maoist messages to villagers staying in the border areas. Cases have been registered in Srimangala and Bhagamandala police stations.

Roopesh was arrested during a joint operation by Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu police in Coimbatore.
