Tenure of VTU V-C extended

Last Updated 22 June 2014, 18:48 IST

Just days before his tenure ends this month, the vice-chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has been given an extension, paving the way for him to continue for another term.

Prof H Maheshappa on Sunday confirmed the development and said that he received an official communication in this regard from the Raj Bhavan on Saturday. His first term as the vice-chancellor had ended on June 30, 2013. The Governor had extended his term for one year. His second term will be counted from last year and in effect he will have two more years left for this term, he said.

The search committee constituted for selecting the VTU V-C had sparked controversy as academicians had raised questions about the credibility of some of its members.

AICTE chairperson S S Mantha, VTU Executive Council member V D Maitri and VTU Dean (Academic), D H Rao were the members of the search panel.
