Even though 65 years have elapsed after Indian Independence, the final Indian citizenship card is not yet approved by the Central and State Governments of India. An Indian citizen still struggles to prove his nationality.

There is a very long delay in issuing of the Aadhar cards, regretted Social Activist M G Hegde.

Addressing a press meet, he said that a letter has been written to the Prime Minister of India informing about the struggle and harassment faced by the Indian citizens, which is painful and time consuming.

When an Indian citizen shifts his residence, he has to live without identity, until new card is issued and the entire procedure takes more than eight months which is tiresome. Senior citizens are made to run from pillar to post and have to wait in long queues, he complained.

Demands

Putting forth demands in an memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister, Hegde said that Government of India should assure the citizens that the information available in the Aadhar card or any other card be kept confidential, so that any other nation or private agency or anti social elements do not take advantage of such information.

There is a need to constitute an independent department which may be called as “Card Issuing Authority of India” and every state and union                                 territories should have branches.

Ration card, Aadhar card, Pan card, voters’ identity card and any other such inter related card should be simplified and issued by the local authorities under the Card Issuing Authority of India.

Single window system

Stressing the need for adopting single window system for issuing all kind of cards, Hegde said every new born child of an Indian citizen parent must get Indian citizen card at the time of issuing birth certificate.
