Truck transporting cigarettes worth Rs 1 cr hijacked

Police said on Friday that the truck belonging to Sri Kumaran Arul Transport was transporting cigarette cartons from Hyderabad unit of ITC to Ernakulum in Kerala.

The lorry, which left Hyderabad on Wednesday evening, was proceeding to Kerala when the gang, which came in a car, struck near Jayamangala village on Malur-Hosur road on Thursday night.

The gang pulled out driver Selvaraj and one of the assailants drove away the truck. The driver was dumped into the car. Later, the gang threw the driver with hands and legs tied into a eucalyptus plantation near Mangasandra and sped away.

Selvaraj managed to free himself and walked five km and later lodged a complaint with the Kolar Rural Police. In-charge Superintendent of Police Phaneendra Singh, DySP Chalavadi, CPI C Sampath Kumar visited the spot.
