Two Central Water Commission directors were among the four persons who were killed after a speeding car in the opposite direction hit the divider before crashing into their car on National Highway 50 near Mariyammanahalli in the taluk on Thursday afternoon.

CWC directors Ramaswamy (50) and Jitendra (50), both residents of Bengaluru, died on the spot while Kavya (30), a native of Tiptur and Sharanabasava (10) were declared brought dead by the doctors at Hosapete hospital.

All the deceased were travelling in the CWC car (Innova) to Bagalkot from Bengaluru. Seven people travelling in other car have been admitted to Hosapete government hospital with grievous injuries.

According to police officials, the accident occurred when the driver of the Bengaluru-bound car lost control as the vehicle spun off the road, crossed the divider and rammed into the CWC officers' car.
