Two engineering students drown in Manipal

Two students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) drowned at Mannapalla tank on Friday midnight.

According to police, Kiran Chandramouli (21) from Bangalore, and Nikhila (20) from Hyderabad, along  with Sharavan, all into their third year of Computer Science Engineering, had been too Mannapalla tank after dinner, for a boat ride.

They began riding a pedal boat when water started gushing into the boat through the holes.

The boat soon capsized and Sharavan managed to swim to the shore and informed the police. Divers were succesful inretrieving the bodies of Kiran and Nikhila.

Superintendent of Police Dr M B Boralingaiah, DySP Dr Prabhudev Mane, Inspector Sadanand visited the tank and have directed the college authorities not to allow the students to visit tank during night.

A case has been registered in this regard.
