The government had appointed senior advocate Ashok Harnahalli as Additional Advocate-General three months ago. Udaya Holla was, reportedly, disappointed by the government’s move. Sources said that Holla was also disturbed by too much interference by K Divakar, the legal advisor to the Chief Minister, which is learnt to have hastened his decision to resign. As per convention, the governor should forward Holla’s resignation to the State Cabinet, which will decide whether to accept or reject the resignation.
However, Holla cited personal reasons for his resignation as he needs to focus on his practice. “ It is nothing like a sudden decision. I have been here since the past one year after this government came to power. Now, let others get a chance,” he said.
In his resignation letter, he had requested the governor to relieve him from the post with immediate effect. Before he left the office on Monday, Holla met Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and other senior judges and assured them of his co-operation in any matter.
