Undertrial commits suicide in Hindalga jail

An undertrial committed suicide by hanging himself inside Hindalga Central Jail in Belagavi on Saturday.

Deceased has been identified as Ashok Mahadev Gollar, a native of Vadgaon in Belagavi. According to sources, the undertrial’s wife had committed suicide and he was arrested on charges of dowry harassment and abatement to suicide. He had been lodged in the jail since last August.

The couple had a three-year-old child.

The officials said Ashok’s behaviour was normal. He had breakfast and lunch but later in the evening hanged himself from the grill on the corridor of his barrack using a towel when other inmates were at work.
