Various activities will be organised as a part of World Toilet Day under Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan, said Zilla Panchayat president Sujatha Krishnappa.

She said door-to-door awareness programme on sanitation will be held in all the gram panchayats from November 15 to 19. Volunteers will motivate the residents to utilise the toilets after the construction.

“Postcard campaign to parents through children on the mandatory use of toilets will be held in all the schools on November 15. Rangoli and drawing competitions will be organised for self help group members, Anganwadi and Asha workers on November 16,” said the president.

She said that a candle light procession will be held in all the gram panchayats on November 17.

Schoolchildren will take up a cycle jatha on November 18 and a bullock cart jatha will be held on November 19.

Further, she said that 69,418 toilets have been constructed in the district since 2012-13.

“According to the baseline survey, the district had 1,82,707 households, of which 69,418 households did not have toilet facilities,” said Sujatha.

In 2016, Koppa, Narasimharajapura and Sringeri taluks were declared free from open defecation. In 2017, Chikkamagaluru district was declared free from open defecation.
