Veerashaiva Maha Adhiveshana to conclude today

The day’s activity began with the women’s conference which focused on the female foeticide, the role of women in the social and cultural progress.

Former minister, Rani Satish, who inaugurated the session, expressed concern at the increasing cases of female foeticide in towns and villages. “The female foeticide is a social evil. The infants are killed indiscriminately and abandoned in bins. It is cruel and a dangerous social sign. The society should introspect on these issues,” she said and added that the number of women for every 1000 men was constantly under decline and reached alarming status.

She recalled the contributions of Akka Mahadevi through her Vachanas. “Akka is a symbol of pride for women. She receives the foremost status in the field of Vachanas,” the former minister opined.

Today, women have achieved great success in the field of Information and Technology, Biotechnology and several other fields. The political reservations has helped increase the number of women in the panchayats, legislature and parliament. There are more than 10 lakh elected members from grama panchayats to the parliament, she said.

Former minister Leeladevi R Prasad, seers Chidananda, Basavalinga Pattadevaru and Shantha Mallikarjuna were present.

Institutions meet

The afternoon session was dedicated for the Institutions and organisations. Prof G S Jayadeva of Deena Bandhu Trust regretted that the institutions and organisations opened for public service have turned into corporate managements. Many of the organisations were receiving foreign funds, he said.

Citing the examples of noble organisations, he said former IAS officer Arun Rai succeeded in pressurising the government to bring a RTI like Act. While, social activist Anna Hazare has also become a model, he opined.

Responsibility

On the occasion, JD(S) general secretary Basavanagouda Patil Yathnal said the Veerashaiva Mahasabha and bigger Veerashaiva institutions have a greater responsibility to help the smaller organisations.  

Former MLC Veeranna Mathikatti, Koppal MP S Shivaramana Gowda, president of Veerashaiva Mahasabha Bheemanna Khandre, seers Shivarudra Swamy, Jayamruthyunjaya and others were present.

The number of visitors to the Suttur Sri Kshethra to attend the Veerashaiva Maha Adhiveshana declined on Monday. The tumult died down compared to the weekend rush on Sunday. Though, the number of participants were less in the morning, the number of visitors gathered steam as the day progressed.

The Krishi mela and the exhibition on Veerashaiva heritage also attracted a big crowd. The three-day conference will conclude on Tuesday when Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will preside the valedictory session. Retired Justice Dr V S Malimath will deliver the valedictory address.
