<p>Agara, the village constructed by Kulottunga Chola a thousand years ago has temples which depict history, culture and language of Tamil. The village which was nourished by rulers of Cholas till the Mysore Wadiyar dynasty, is now in a state of dilapidation.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Among more than 196 temples with history of thousand years in Karnataka, three of them in Agara have found their importance. About 15 temples are found around 300 meters of diameter of the village which were constructed during reign of Cholas, Kadamba, Ganga, Chalukya, Rashtrakuta, Hoysala, Vijayanagara and Wadiyars of Mysore. Rameshwara temple in Dravidian style on National highway is one among these temples which has entrance at West and East with a pond Honnuhole in front of it. <br /><br />Writer Agaram Rangaiah gave priority in renovating the temple. Though the compound is in good condition, history written in Tamil language has faded after painting. Stone pillars in the temple have fallen down and damaged sculptures have become branches for people to sit and rest. The pillar built of thirty pillars is damaged while many idols of gods are abandoned on streets. <br /><br />Siddamallaswamy of Kallumata says, there is a history in every step of the village constructed by Cholas in 1103 AD, which cry for attention. The village and temples are neglected by the government. He urged for immediate steps for conserving the historical monuments in the village.<br /><br /></p>
