Wait for Indira Canteen continues

Last Updated 24 November 2018, 17:39 IST

Though the work on an Indira Canteen near Koppa taluk hospital is complete, the citizens are yet to reap its benefits.

The work on the Indira Canteen was taken up during the previous Congress government.

“The work on the Indira Canteen was entrusted to a private firm. The town panchayat is entrusted with the task of monitoring the work. We do not know when the Indira Canteen will be opened for public use,” said town panchayat chief officer Shantharaj.

“The canteen provides food at a subsidised rate and is a blessing for the poor. The government should initiate measures to inaugurate the canteen at the earliest,” said Indira Nagara resident K S Santhosh.

MLA T D Raje Gowda said that a few works on the Indira Canteen were pending. Hence, the canteen was not inaugurated in the past. Now, the work is complete.

It will be inaugurated either before the commencement of the Assembly session or after it, he said.
