Woman allegedly raped by man who spiked her juice in Karnataka's Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Mangaluru East Police have begun investigation into the alleged rape of a woman by a man who had spiked her juice under the pretext of helping her.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said a case was registered under sections 64, 331, 351(3), 305(A), 76, and 3(5) of the BNS Act, along with Section 67(A) of the IT Act, and added that an investigation has been initiated. According to the survivor’s complaint, on July 21, she encountered an issue with her car while driving near Kadri. A bike rider, identified as Mohammed Shafin, stopped to assist her by repairing the car and later dropped her at her apartment in Kodialbail. During the interaction, they exchanged their mobile numbers.

As per the complainant, on August 8, when her refrigerator malfunctioned, she contacted Shafin for help. He arranged for an electrician to fix the issue. After the repair, Shafin asked her not to switch on the refrigerator immediately and left to drop the electrician.

He later returned with fruits and juice. The complainant alleged that after drinking the juice, she fell unconscious. Shafin allegedly sexually assaulted her while she was asleep. She claimed that after regaining consciousness he had informed her of recording the act and threatened to upload the video on social media.

Using this threat, Shafin reportedly continued to assault her multiple times and even threatened to throw acid on her. The complainat also accused Shafin of taking her car. On October 25, when she went to his apartment in Deralakatte to retrieve it, Shafin’s brother, Mohammed Shiyab, allegedly attempted to molest her and issued death threats. On October 27, Shafin reportedly broke into her house and fled with a bag containing Rs 62,000 in cash.

Based on the her complaint, the police has registered a case and further investigations are being conducted accordingly.
