Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked panchayat officials to pay surprise visits to schools, hostels and hospitals to check negligence and irregularities.

Addressing the newly elected zilla and taluk panchayat members in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Siddaramaiah said Panchayat presidents have been given special powers.

They not only enjoy the ministers of state rank, they also get to serve for five years. They should make use of these powers and ensure execution of quality development works in the next five years, he said.  Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister H K Patil said that the new Panchayat Raj Act has paved way for a revolution without bloodshed.

He appealed to the members to ensure that all flagship programmes of the government reached the people in time. He, however, rued that quality works was not being executed.
