Kashmir guv chairs first UHQ meet

After assuming functions of state government on January 10, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra chaired his first Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting on Tuesday.

Official sources told Deccan Herald that the meeting, which was presided over by Vohra, discussed security related issues in Jammu and Kashmir with special focus on border firing and issues of the people, who had to migrate frequently in view of shelling and firing by Pakistan.

“During the meeting the governor stressed the need for close and effective coordination among security forces and intelligence agencies to maintain peace and order in the state. The meeting reviewed security situation in all the border areas, along the International Border (IB), Line of Control (LoC) and Line of actual Control along China. Meeting also analyzed issues relating to cross border movements and infiltration attempts across the IB and LoC,” they said.

The meeting, which was held at the civil secretariat in Jammu, was attended by general officer commanding-in-chief, northern command, chief secretary, and director general of police, home secretary, corps commanders, inspector general of BSF and CRPF, and senior officers of the central intelligence agencies, they added. Officials said the meeting deliberated on various issues relating to the internal and external security situation in the state.

Officers representing the different agencies briefed the meeting about the measures taken on different fronts to safeguard the frontiers and maintain internal order, they said.

An official spokesperson said Vohra expressed his satisfaction over security management in the past year. 

“He complimented the security forces and intelligence agencies for achieving high level of convergence on the anti-militancy front and observed that joint efforts of the agencies had resulted in neutralizing the inimical elements and enabled a high voter turnout in the recent concluded Assembly elections which were altogether free, fair and transparently conducted,” he said.
