<p>Thiruvananthapuram: The power tussle in the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/kerala">Kerala</a> University triggered by the Bharat Mata picture row took a violent turn on Tuesday with the ruling CPM's <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/students-federation-of-india">Students Federation of India</a> (SFI) staging strong demonstrations to the major universities in the state alleging attempt by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar of trying saffronise universities. The demonstrations turned violent at many places.</p><p>The march to the Kerala University in Thiruvananthapuram witnessed the SFI activists led by state leaders barging into the university headquarters by breaking the police barricades and university main door and reaching up to the office of the vice-chancellor. </p><p>Attempts by the police to remove the SFI workers further aggravated the protest. Ciza Thomas, who is now holding the charge of vice-chancellor in the place of Mohanan Kunnummal, who is on a foreign trip, was not present at the office.</p>.Kerala Catholic body urges Christian youth to enter mainstream politics.<p>The agitators later calmed down after CPM state secretary M V Govindan reached the spot and addressed them. He said that the student activists would continue the strong protest until the chancellor and vice-chancellor kept off from taking anti-democratic steps.</p><p>Similar protests by SFI activists were staged at the other major universities in the state including the Kannur, Calicut and Mahatma Gandhi universities. There were allegations that the police did not use much force against the SFI activists.</p><p>Meanwhile, the power tussle in the Kerala University subsequent to suspension of registrar Anil Kumar on charges of insulting the Governor in continuing. The Governor, in his capacity as Chancellor, is likely to take some crucial decisions soon.</p><p>At present Anil Kumar is holding the registrar's office based on the decision by the pro-left members of the syndicate on Sunday to revoke his suspension. Mini Kappan, who was appointed as registrar by vice-chancellor Ciza Thomas on Monday, could not assume charge yet</p><p>The vice-chancellor is learnt to be refusing to consider files being sent by Anil Kumar.</p>
