Suspected cholera death reported in Kerala's Alappuzha

Thiruvananthapuram: A 48-year-old man died of 'suspected cholera' at Alappuzha in Kerala on Friday.

District medical officer Dr Jamuna Vargheese said that even as the blood sample of the patient was tested positive for cholera, stool samples came out negative. Hence, it could not be officially confirmed as death due to cholera infection.

Raghu P G of Thalavady in Alappuzha died at a private hospital during the wee hours of Friday.

He was under treatment for diarrhea and vomiting for the last one week. He was a driver and used to travel widely. Hence the source of infection could not be traced. As a precaution his family members are being observed and samples from water bodies near his home are being tested, health department sources said.

63-year-old Ajai Chandran hailing from Kowdiar in Thiruvananthapuram died due to Cholera on April 20. His source of infection was has yet to be traced.

Last year a couple of inmates of a care home for special children in Thiruvananthapuram were tested positive for cholera.
